Putting the FIVE POINT
PROGRAM THRUSTS into action is every Delta chapter’s
mission. Rancocas Valley Alumnae Chapter has a proud
history of action-oriented public service. Under the
FIVE POINT PROGRAM, the chapter’s efforts have
included: |

Educational Development |
|
| |
|

| |

Scholarships
and Recognition Awards - Major fundraising events
benefit
the chapter’s annual scholarships and
recognition awards. Annual scholarships have
been awarded to area students since the chapter
was established in 1976. Scholarship and recognition
award recipients are chosen on the basis of
high academic scholarship, talent and need.
Annual Day Care Scholarships are periodically
given to area pre-schoolers in need of financial
assistance. |

Delta GEMS
– This program provides a supportive mentoring
environment in which to educate girls ages 14
thru 18 on skills required to be successful
in life, including their continued formal education
and careers. Workshops on the following topics
are included in the program: Career/Life Planning,
Securing Financial Aid for College, Social Graces
and Entrepreneurial Skills. Delta GEMS are also
involved in service projects intended to equip
them to become contributing citizens of their
communities. Examples of their service projects
include partnering with Tabernacle Baptist Church
to feed the homeless, Toys for Tots and visiting
seniors in hospitals and nursing home facilities.
Annually, the chapter presents recognition awards
to all graduating Delta GEMS. |

Dr. Betty Shabazz
Delta Academy – Delta Academy provides
an opportunity to enrich and enhance the education
that our young girls receive in public schools.
A primary goal of the program is to prepare
young girls for full participation as leaders
in the 21st Century. Our curriculum includes
computer training, self-esteem and etiquette
workshops, field trips for science experiences
and college exposure as well as special outings
to cultural events, fancy dinners, museums,
plays and concerts. |

Science in Everyday
Experience – This program’s objective
is to increase the interest and success rate
of African American elementary and middle school
age children (K-8) in science and mathematics.
RVA incorporates experiment stations in various
public events as well as other chapter programs. |

May Week Activities
- On an annual basis, the Rancocas Valley Alumnae
Chapter holds an Awards Recognition Program
to acknowledge individuals and/or organizations
that have made outstanding contributions in
the areas of community service and education.
Categories of recipients include the youth as
well as adults. During May Week, the chapter
designates a Sunday to worship together at a
local church and makes a donation to the church’s
Board of Christian Education.

Grandparents
Support Program – Provides additional
support to grandparents and great grandparents
raising their grandchildren. The program includes
providing information about resources available
to these caregivers as well as opportunities
to network with other grandparents. The chapter
also targets this group with its holiday baskets
and toy drives. Political issues of interest
to the grandparents are also incorporated into
legislative visits conducted during Delta Days
at the Nation and State Capitols. |

Supporting Our
Own - Rancocas Valley
Alumnae Chapter supports this national programmatic
thrust by supporting African American businesses
whenever and wherever possible. In addition,
RVA launched an Economic Directory of African
American owned businesses that is distributed
to the public at various events.

Physical and Mental Health
|

International Day of Service
- This program promotes HIV/AIDS awareness through
workshops on men, women and children with AIDS,
caring for people with AIDS and volunteering.
During this program, the chapter generally makes
a donation to a community organization that
focuses on HIV/AIDS awareness. The chapter has
won an Exemplary Service Award from the Grand
Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
for this program. |

Health Walks - Chapter members solicit sponsors
for their participation in various walks throughout
the area. A few examples are the March of Dimes
Walk America, Breast Cancer Walks and the American
Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. |

Health Awareness - A monthly newsletter
is distributed to members containing various
health education articles. In addition, Blood
Pressure screening is offered to sorors prior
to and after every Chapter Meeting by RVA’s
resident health professionals who provide follow-up
service to those whose blood pressure is of
concern. |

Political Awareness and
Involvement |
|

|

| |
 |
Voters Registration, Education
& Mobilization – Voter registration
drives
are conducted on an ongoing basis at various
locations and events. Education is provided
through monthly Social Action Alerts and workshops
on various topics. In addition, telephone banks
and other methods of communication are used
in mobilization efforts. |

Delta Days at the Nation’s & State’s
Capitol - Annually, the chapter participates
in Delta Days at the Nation’s Capitol
and Delta Days at the State Capitol to meet
with legislature to discuss issues, build coalitions
and network. On an ongoing basis, the chapter
is also an advocate on social and political
issues that affect our communities. These issues
are profiled in a monthly Social Action Alert
distributed to chapter members. |

International Awareness and Involvement |
|

 |
Africa Connection – The
chapter provides service to various African
countries by donating basic supplies to students
as well as donations to HIV/AIDS funds. |
