This historic moment marks the first time in the Federal Reserve's 109-year history that a Black woman was nominated and confirmed to serve on the powerful board of governors. Dr. Cook is a macroeconomist and professor of economics and international relations at Michigan State University. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, Indianapolis's Federal Home Loan Bank, and Rende Progress Capital Community Development Financial Institution. Dr. Cook has previously worked for the Council of Economic Advisers, the Treasury Department, the World Bank, and several financial institutions. By assuming this role, Dr. Cook follows in the footsteps of Delta Sigma Theta's 1st National President Sadie T.M. Alexander. Soror Cook was initiated into Delta Sigma Theta at the Eta Kappa Chapter at Spelman College, where she was in the Honors Program and graduated magna cum laude with a BA in Philosophy. Additionally, she received her Ph.D. in economics from the University of California, Berkeley. Soror Cook is a Diamond Life Member and member of the Eastern Region.
